Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera (lahir 5 April 1955) adalah seorang politikus dan teolog Malawi yang menjadi Presiden Malawi pada bulan Juni 2020.[2] Ia merupakan pemimpin Partai Kongres Malawi sejak tahun 2013 dan sebelumnya menjabat sebagai Pemimpin Oposisi di Majelis Nasional setelah sebuah pemilihan presiden yang sangat kontroversial yang diadakan pada tanggal 21 Mei 2019 yang dibatalkan oleh Mahkamah Konstitusi. Ia merupakan Presiden Gereja Sidang-Sidang Jemaat Allah di Malawi dari tahun 1989 hingga tanggal 14 Mei 2013.
Biografi
Chakwera memperoleh gelar Sarjana Seni dalam bidang Filsafat dari Universitas Malawi pada tahun 1977. Dia belajar teologi dan memperoleh gelar BA Honours dari Universitas Limpopo di Afrika Selatan, kemudian Magister dari Universitas Afrika Selatan pada tahun 1991.[3] Pada tahun 2000, ia memperoleh gelar doktor dari Trinity International University, di Amerika Serikat.[4]
