Senyawa turunan benzena ini berbentuk cairan seperti minyak tak berwarna yang mudah menguap dengan bau manis, meskipun menjadi sedikit busuk pada konsentrasi tinggi. Stirena adalah bahan dasar polistirena dan beberapa kopolimer. Sekitar 25 juta ton (55 miliar pound) stirena diproduksi tahun 2010.[1]
