Mitella adalah genus tanaman berbunga yang dikenal sebagai miterwort atau bishop's cap. Spesies Mitella berasal dari wilayah beriklim sedang dan arktik di Amerika Utara serta Asia.
Deskripsi
Mitella mencakup tanaman tahunan yang tumbuh dari rizoma bersisik, memiliki daun berbentuk hati atau sekop yang lebar di dekat pangkalnya, serta bunga dengan lima kelopak dalam tandan atau bulir yang panjang.
Etimologi
Nama genus ini berarti "mitra kecil", dari bahasa Latin mitra dengan akhiran diminutif -ella, karena bunganya dikatakan menyerupai tutup kepala uskup. Namun, dalam penggunaan bahasa Latin Klasik, mitella berarti "tutup kepala wanita" atau "gendongan".[2] Kata mitra dalam bahasa Latin berasal dari bahasa Yunani mítrā yang berarti "ikat pinggang", "ikat kepala", atau "serban".[3]
