Sejarah

Departemen Loire dibentuk selama Revolusi Prancis, pada 12 Agustus 1793, dari pemecahan bekas departemen Rhone et Loire, yang telah dibentuk pada 1790 berdasarkan hukum 1789. Berhubungan dengan bekas provinsi Forez.
