Jesse Jackson (8 Oktober 1941 – 17 Februari 2026) adalah seorang aktivis hak sipil, pendeta, serta politisi asal Amerika Serikat. Ia pernah dinominasikan sebagai Presiden Amerika Serikat mewakili Partai Demokrat (1983–1984 dan 1987–1988).[1]
Biografi
Dia lahir pada 8 Oktober 1941 dengan nama Jesse Louis Burns di Greenvile, Carolina Selatan.[2] Pada tahun 1959, ia melanjutkan pendidikannya di Universitas Illinois untuk menghindari diri dari diskriminasi di Carolina Selatan.[2] Namun, dia mengalami diskriminasi yang tidak berbeda jauh di Illinois sehingga dia berpindah ke sebuah institusi pendidikan Afrika-Amerika di Greensboro, Carolina Utara.[2] Di Greensboro, dia dapat mengembangkan kemampuannya dalam berpolitik dan kemudian terpilih sebagai presiden badan mahasiswa.[2] Pada tahun 1997, Presiden Bill Clinton mengutus Jeese Jackson ke Afrika untuk mempromosikan hak asasi manusia dan demokrasi.[2] Pada tahun yang sama, Jackson juga mendirikan Wall Street Project yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan peluang kaum minoritas di perusahaan Amerika.[1]
