Carex adalah genus dari lebih dari 2,000 spesies[1] tanaman mirip rerumputan dari famili Cyperaceae, umumnya dikenal sebagai alang-alang. Genus ini tersebar di berbagai benua, khususnya di daerah tropis dan subtropis. Anggota lain dari Cyperaceae juga disebut alang, tetapi genus Carex bisa disebut alang-alang sejati, dan ini yang paling banyak spesies di famili nya.
