Daniel Baird Wallace (lahir 5 Juni 1952) adalah seorang profesor Studi Perjanjian Baru pada Dallas Theological Seminary. Ia merupakan pendiri dan executive director "Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts", yang bertujuan mendigitalisasi semua naskah kuno bahasa Yunani yang memuat Perjanjian Baru Alkitab Kristen menggunakan fotografi digital.

Riwayat hidup

Wallace dilahirkan pada tanggal 5 Juni 1952 di California, Amerika Serikat. Ia meraih gelar B.A. (1975) dari Biola University, dan gelar Th.M. (1979) serta Ph.D. (1995) dalam bidang studi Perjanjian Baru dari Dallas Theological Seminary. Ia juga mengikut studi pasca-doktoral di berbagai tempat termasuk di Cambridge pada Tyndale House, Christ's College, Clare College, dan Westminster College, serta di Jerman pada Institute for New Testament Textual Research, University of Tübingen, dan Bavarian State Library.

Karier

Wallace memulai karier pengajar akademik pada Dallas Seminary dari tahun 1979 sampai 1981 dan kemudian di Grace Theological Seminary dari tahun 1981 sampai 1983, sebelum kembali ke Dallas di mana ia mengajar sejak 1995. Ia menerbitkan edisi pertama Greek Grammar Beyond The Basics pada tahun 1996. Sejak itu buku ini menjadi karya standar dalam bidangnya. Dua pertiga sekolah yang mengajar topik ini menggunakannya sebagai buku teks.[1] Ia menjabat sebagai penyunting senior bagian Perjanjian Baru untuk NET Bible dan mendirikan Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts.

Pandangan

Wallace, bersama koleganya dari DTS, Darrell L. Bock, merupakan kritikus terkemuka terhadap upaya "budaya populer" untuk menyerang pandangan mengenai Yesus Kristus sebagaimana dianut oleh kebanyakan orang Kristen, terutama dari kalangan konservatif dan evangelikal — upaya-upaya penyerangan ini terutama dalam tulisan Elaine Pagels dan Bart Ehrman.[2] Ia merupakan salah satu kontributor Ehrman Project, sebuah situs web yang mengkritik tulisan-tulisan Bart Ehrman.[3] Wallace mengkritisk buku Ehrman Misquoting Jesus: The Story of Who Changed the Bible and Why karena menyalahtafsirkan hasil-hasil studi kritik teks Alkitab, terutama pandangan Ehrman mengenai "orthodox corruption of Scripture" ("korupsi ortodoks Kitab Suci").[4] Wallace dan Ehrman berdiskusi pada the Greer-Heard Point-Counterpoint Forum dalam bulan April, 2008.
