Comment: While it's good that you included a source, we need more. You can see the reason why at the page WP:ONESOURCE. For how to cite your sources inline, you should check out this or this. We generally don't like "general references", because it makes it harder to find what reference supports the claim. EatingCarBatteries (contribs | talk) 22:21, 15 January 2026 (UTC)
Comment: Wikipedia articles require articles to have sources, which need to be secondary and reliable. This article has no sources and therefore I cannot accept it. Mwen Sé Kéyòl Translator-a (talk) 15:17, 15 January 2026 (UTC)
The Oregon Rex was a purebred cat variety that emerged alongside other Rex types in the mid-20th century due to random genetic mutation. Following its discovery and formal recognition, the breed experienced a brief period of popularity among purebred breeders in the United States. Eventually, due to crossbreeding with other Rex types, the Oregon Rex appears to have been absorbed into the better-known Rex breeds, such as the Devon Rex or Cornish Rex.
History
While anecdotal reports suggest that litters with typical Oregon Rex traits appeared as early as 1944, the first documented case occurred in 1959 in a litter of domestic house cats in Oregon. Unlike the rest of the litter and its mother, who all had straight hair, this kitten possessed a distinctive curly coat. At the same time, the first Cornish Rex cats were imported from Britain to the US and were soon crossed with the developing Oregon Rex type. Separately, breeders established a purebred line which quickly made the Oregon Rex one of the most well-known varieties in America. However, as the various Rex types with different genetic makeups were crossed, the Oregon Rex failed to prevail as an independent breed. The last homozygous Oregon Rex is said to have died in 1972.
Appearance
The typically curled coat was silky, short and close-fitting, with no or only a greatly reduced amount of top coat. The awn hair was fully developed and more pronounced than in German Rex or Cornish Rex cats, had its typical shape of being thicker right under the tip and appeared in a normal amount. Due to not being curled, the awn hairs were significantly longer than the undercoat. However, the guard hairs were missing.
The head was wedge-shaped with an elongated bridge of the nose. The ears were large, gently rounded at the tips and set high on the head; the eyes medium-sized and oval-shaped.
The Oregon Rex had an elongated body and a slim build. The tail was long and slender, tapering to a point at the end. The Oregon Rex's legs were long, graceful and lean with dainty, round but not too small paws.
Character
The Oregon Rex combined the characteristics of all Rex breeds. Affectionate and demanding, funny, playful, sometimes a little tumultuous and a bit arrogant. It was also said to have a dominant nature and therefore be somewhat complicated to handle.
