Spodoptera adalah ngengat yang termasuk dalam suku Noctuidae. Larvanya (ulatnya) dikenal sebagai hama yang sangat merusak. Ulat yang tidak berbulu oleh awam biasa disebut ulat tentara atau ulat grayak.
Di Indonesia, ulat grayak utama adalah Spodoptera exigua (larva berwarna coklat kehijauan) dan S. litura (larva berwarna coklat). Ulat grayak tinggal di bawah permukaan tanah di siang hari dan aktif memakan tajuk tumbuhan pada malam hari. Serangannya dapat sangat hebat sehingga dalam waktu semalam dapat menghabiskan suatu pertanaman, dan oleh sebab itu dikenal sebagai "ulat tentara".
