Spinacia adalah sebuah genus tumbuhan berbunga dalam subfamili Chenopodioideae, keluarga Amaranthaceae. Anggotanya yang paling terkenal adalah bayam jepang (Spinacia oleracea).

Sistematik

Genus ini pertama kali dideskripsikan pada tahun 1753 oleh Carl Linnaeus dalam Species Plantarum, 2, hal. 1027.[1] Spesies tipenya adalah Spinacia oleracea. Namanya mungkin berasal dari bahasa Latin spina atau dari bahasa Persia ispanakh ("tulang belakang"), mengacu pada buah berduri.[2] Genus ini berkerabat dekat dengan genus Blitum, keduanya dikelompokkan dalam Tribus Anserineae (Sinonim: Spinacieae).[3] Berikut merupakan daftar spesiesnya:
