Rumpun bahasa Austro-Tai, terkadang juga rumpun bahasa Austro-Thai adalah rumpun bahasa yang diusulkan yang terdiri dari rumpun bahasa Austronesia dan rumpun bahasa Tai-Kadai.
Usulan yang berkaitan termasuk Austrik (Wilhelm Schmidt pada tahun 1906) dan Sino-Austronesia (Laurent Sagart pada tahun 1990, 2005).
Asal mula
Rumpun bahasa Tai-Kadai mengandung banyak bentuk yang mirip dengan rumpun bahasa Austronesia yang ditemukan sejak Schlegel pada tahun 1901.[1] Kemiripan ini dianggap terlalu banyak untuk dijelaskan sebagai kemiripan kebetulan.[2] Pertanyaan kemudian adalah apakah kemiripan kedua bahasa tersebut disebabkan kontak bahasa (yaitu, meminjam) atau turunan umum (yaitu., hubungan silsilah).
