Populus, adalah genus dari 25–35 spesies tumbuhan berbunga gugur pada keluarga Salicaceae, tanaman tersebut sebagian besar berasal dari belahan bumi utara. Nama bahasa Inggris diterapkan untuk berbagai spesies yang berbeda termasuk poplar (/ˈpɒp.lər/), aspen, dan kapas.

Ekologi

Pohon hawar sering berada pada lahan basah atau riparian pohon. Aspen adalah salah satu boreal pohon berdaun lebar yang paling penting.[1]

Pohon hawar dan aspen merupakan tanaman pangan penting bagi larva sejumlah besar spesies Lepidoptera. Pleurotus populinus, aspen jamur tiram, ditemukan secara eksklusif pada kayu mati dari pohon Populus di Amerika Utara.
