OpenShot Video Editor adalah penyunting video bebas dan sumber terbuka untuk Windows, Linux, macOS, dan ChromeOS. Proyek ini pertama kali dimulai pada August 2008 oleh Jonathan Thomas, dengan misi untuk menyediakan penyunting video yang stabil, bebas, dan mudah untuk digunakan[4][5][6][7][8]

OpenShot ditulis dengan Python, PyQt5, C++ dan OpenShot juga menyediakan API untuk Python.[9] Fungsi penyuntingan video inti dari OpenShot diimplementasikan di dalam pustaka C++ yaitu libopenshot. Inti dari penyuntingan suara nya di buat menggunakan pustaka JUCE.

Sejak versi 2.0.6 (dirilis di tahun 2016), OpenShot sekarang adalah aplikasi lintas-platform. OpenShot juga tersedia sebagai PortableApps untuk WIndows sejak 2020.[10]

OpenShot mendukung kodek yang biasa dipakai yang didukung oleh FFmpeg, termasuk WebM (VP9), AVCHD (libx264), HEVC (libx265), dan kodeks suara seperti mp3 (libmp3lame) dan aac (libfaac). Program tersebut bisa merender MPEG4, ogv, Blu-ray, dan video DVD, dan video Full HD untuk mengunggah ke situs jaringan video di Internet.

Ulasan

Sebuah ulasan pada tahun 2010 versi 1.0 mengemukakan bahwa OpenShot masih berkualitas alpha dan tidak cocok untuk penggunaan produktif oleh publik.[11] Di bulan Maret 31, 2017, sebuah ulasan oleh Bryan Lunduke di Network World memuji OpenShot 2.3 karena "alat transformasi dan editor judulnya yang baru — serta kinerjanya yang mulus".[12] Lunduke juga menyebutkan secara positif bahwa OpenShot dipaketkan dibawah AppImage untuk distribusi Linux.
