NGC 188 adalah gugus terbuka yang terletak di konstelasi Cepheus. Gugus ini ditemukan oleh John Herschel pada tahun 1825. Tidak seperti kebanyakan gugus terbuka yang bergeser menjauh setelah beberapa juta tahun karena interaksi gravitasi dari galaksi Bima Sakti, NGC 188 terletak jauh di atas bidang galaksi dan merupakan salah satu gugus terbuka yang paling kuno yang diketahui, dengan usia sekitar 6,8 miliar tahun.[4] NGC 188 sangat dekat dengan Kutub Astronomi Utara, di bawah lima derajat, dan di dalam konstelasi Cepheus pada jarak sekitar 5.000 tahun cahaya, yang menjadikannya berada sedikit di atas cakram bima Sakti dan terletak lebih jauh dari pusat galaksi dibandingkan dari Matahari.
