Metafase

Metaphase (dari bahasa Yunani Kuno μετα- (meta-) melampaui dan dari bahasa Yunani Kuno φάσις (phásis), artinya "tampak"), adalah sebuah tahap mitosis dalam siklus sel eukariotik di mana kromosom berada pada tahap paling padat dan melingkar kedua (mereka paling memadat pada tahap anafase).[1] Kromosom-kromosom ini, yang membawa informasi genetik, menyejajarkan diri pada sumbu khatulistiwa sel di antara Pemintal kromosom pada lempeng metafase, sebelum terpisah menjadi kedua sel anakan. Penyejajaran ini menandai dimulainya metafase.[2] Metafase mencakup sekitar 4% dari keseluruhan durasi siklus sel.[butuh rujukan]

Pada tahap ini, membran inti dan inti sel sudah tidak lagi terlihat.[3]
