Judith Butler (lahir 24 Februari 1956) adalah seorang filsuf Amerika dan teoretisi gender yang karyanya telah memengaruhi filsafat politik, etika dan bidang feminisme gelombang ketiga, queer [2] serta teori sastra.[3] Setelah lulus dari Bennington College, dia belajar filsafat di Universitas Yale, menerima gelar B.A. (1978), M.A. (1982), dan Ph.D. (1984). Dia mengajar di Universitas Wesleyan, Universitas George Washington, Universitas Johns Hopkins, dan Universitas California, Berkeley.[4] Sejak 1993, dia mengajar di Universitas California, Berkeley, di mana sekarang dia adalah Maxine Elliot Professor di Departemen Literatur Komparatif dan Program Teori Kritis.
