Ceiba adalah genus pohon dalam famili Malvaceae yang berasal dari daerah tropis dan subtropis di Amerika (dari Meksiko dan Karibia hingga Argentina Utara) dan Afrika Barat tropis.[2] Beberapa spesiesnya dapat tumbuh hingga setinggi 70 m atau lebih, dengan batang lurus tanpa cabang yang berujung pada kanopi besar yang menyebar, dan akar penopang yang bisa lebih tinggi daripada orang dewasa. Spesies yang paling terkenalnya dan paling banyak dibudidayakan adalah Kapuk randu (Ceiba pentandra), salah satu dari beberapa tumbuhan yang disebut sebagai kapuk.
Anggota spesiesnya biasa digunakan sebagai pakan alami oleh larva beberapa spesies serangga dalam ordo Lepidoptera (kupu-kupu dan ngengat), termasuk serangga penambang daun Bucculatrix ceibae, yang hanya memakan daun tumbuhan dalam genus ini.
