Meliosma atau bulatung dalah genus tanaman berbunga dalam keluarga Sabiaceae, berasal dari daerah tropis hingga daerah beriklim hangat di Asia selatan dan timur serta Amerika. Secara tradisional dianggap mengandung sekitar 100 spesies ; beberapa ahli botani [2] mengambil pandangan yang lebih konservatif dan hanya menerima 20-25 spesies sebagai spesies yang berbeda. Mereka berupa pohon atau semak, tumbuh setinggi 10–45 m.

Bukti fosil menunjukkan genus ini dulunya mempunyai wilayah jelajah yang lebih luas di Belahan Bumi Utara, termasuk Eropa dan Asia Tengah hingga zaman es Pliosen akhir, dan lebih awal di Amerika Utara. [3] Sekurang-kurangnya 17 spesies Meliosma diketahui dari Peru. [4]


Catatan fosil

Fosil endokarp dari Miosen awal Meliosma wetteraviensis, telah ditemukan di Cekungan Zittau bagian Ceko. Kisaran stratigrafi takson ini adalah dari Oligosen akhir hingga Pliosen di Eropa Barat dan Siberia. [5] Fosil Meliosma tambahan telah ditemukan di Formasi Clarno Eosen tengah di Oregon, AS, [6] dan Formasi Fort Union Paleosen di Wyoming. [1]
