Balsa (Bahasa Latin: Ochroma grandiflorum Rowlee) merupakan tanaman pohon dengan tinggi dapat mencapai 35 M dan daun berbentuk bundar telur dengan bunga kuning kehijauan. Balsa termasuk dalam suku Bombacaceae yang berasal dari Brasil dan Equador, umumnya balsa tumbuh baik di dataran rendah sampai ketinggian 500 Mdpl. Perkembangbiakkan balsa secara generatif dengan biji, pertumbuhannya sangat cepat. balsa ditanam sebagai pohon pelindung, dan biasanya digunakan dalam pembuatan kapal terbang, sabuk penolong dan pengapung atau untuk keperluan alat-alat penyekat dikarenakan kayu dari pohon balsa lebih ringan daripada kayu gabus.[3]
