Special Air Service Regiment Special Air Service Regiment (SASR atau SAS, terjemahan: "Resimen Dinas Udara Khusus") adalah pasukan khusus Angkatan Darat Australia. Satuan ini dibentuk pada 1957 dan mencontoh satuan Special Air Service (SAS) milik Britania (Inggris) Raya, dan sama-sama memiliki moto "Who Dares Wins" ("Yang Berani, Menang"). Resimen ini bermarkas di Barak Campbell, Swanbourne, dekat kota Perth, Australia Barat, dan berada di bawah komando langsung Komando Operasi Khusus. Satuan ini telah beroperasi di Pulau Kalimantan (Konfrontasi Indonesia-Malaysia), Vietnam, Somalia, Timor Timur (INTERFET), Irak, dan Afghanisan, dan berbagai misi lainnya. SASR juga terlibat dalam berbagai operasi domestik dan memiliki kemampuan anti-teroris.
Peran
Tugas dan kemampuan
Sebuah unit komando langsung Komando Operasi Khusus,[1] Special Air Service Regimrnt (SASR) adalah unit pasukan khusus Angkatan Darat Australia dan "bertugas untuk memberikan kemampuan operasi khusus untuk mendukung Angkatan Pertahanan Australia. Ini termasuk menyediakan kemampuan unik untuk mendukung operasi strategis yang sensitif, penyelamatan sandera,[2] nasihat dan bantuan pelatihan, pengintaian khusus, pemogokan presisi dan tindakan langsung".[3] SASR terutama disusun untuk melakukan pengintaian jarak jauh dan pengawasan rahasia dalam tim kecil di wilayah yang dikuasai musuh, sementara unit komando digunakan untuk melakukan serangan dalam kelompok yang lebih besar.[4] Selain berperang selama konflik konvensional, resimen juga bertugas untuk mempertahankan kemampuan spesialis kontra-teroris. Kemampuan lainnya termasuk melatih pasukan lokal atau pribumi, penyelamatan warga negara Australia dan bantuan kemanusiaan. SASR juga dilatih dalam operasi kontra-pemberontakan.[3]
Perang dan pengintaian khusus
Dalam peran pengintaian jarak jauh, SASR biasanya beroperasi dalam patroli kecil, antara lima atau enam operator dengan tugas menyusup ke wilayah musuh dan memberikan intelijen tentang aktivitas dan kemampuan musuh. Selama tugas-tugas seperti itu, SASR berusaha untuk menghindari daripada menghadapi musuh. Tentara SASR juga mengarahkan dukungan tembakan termasuk serangan udara untuk menghancurkan instalasi musuh dan mengganggu atau membunuh pasukan musuh bila memungkinkan. Patroli pengintaian SASR dapat dimasukkan melalui udara (baik dengan helikopter, parasut atau parasut ketinggian tinggi), darat (berjalan kaki atau dengan kendaraan) atau air (termasuk dengan kapal selam, perahu kecil, kayak atau menyelam) dan telah terbukti mampu menempuh jarak jauh dan tetap bersembunyi di hutan, gurun, dan medan gunung.[5] Patroli SASR juga dapat melakukan sabotase dan serangan berdurasi pendek pada target bernilai tinggi, termasuk markas besar, lapangan terbang, dan simpul komunikasi.
Kontra-terorisme dan penyelamatan sandera
Salah satu peran utama resimen adalah untuk menyediakan kemampuan kontra-teroris,[6] dengan elemen SASR yang ditunjuk sebagai Tactical Assault Group (West) untuk menanggapi insiden domestik di pantai barat Australia dan juga untuk internasional operasi.[7] TAG (West) mempertahankan kemampuan pemberitahuan singkat untuk melakukan operasi militer di luar lingkup negara bagian/wilayah dan Kelompok Taktis Polisi federal. Operasi kontra-teroris ofensif dapat mencakup tindakan langsung dan pemulihan sandera.
Kemampuan untuk menaiki kapal musuh yang sedang berlabuh, kapal yang sedang berlayar dan anjungan gas dan minyak lepas pantai juga dipertahankan.[8] TAG (West) dijaga pada kesiapan tinggi untuk jangka waktu 12 bulan, sebelum digantikan oleh skuadron lain dalam peran ini. Resimen Komando ke-2 menyediakan Tactical Assault Group (East) untuk menanggapi insiden domestik di pantai timur Australia.[9]
