James Whale (22 Juli 1889 – 29 Mei 1957) adalah seorang sutradara film, sutradara teater dan aktor Inggris. Ia paling diingat atas empat film klasik-nya: Frankenstein (1931), The Old Dark House (1932), The Invisible Man (1933) dan Bride of Frankenstein (1935). Whale juga menyutradarai film-film dalam genre lainnya, yang meliputi apa yang dianggap menjadi versi film definitif dari musikal Show Boat (1936).
