Samuel Dashiell Hammett (/dəˈʃiːl ˈhæmɪt/;^[2] 27 Mei 1894 – 10 Januari 1961) adalah seorang pengarang novel detektif dan cerpen asal Amerika Serikat. Ia juga merupakan penulis naskah dan aktivis politik. Ia menciptakan karakter Sam Spade (The Maltese Falcon), Nick dan Nora Charles (The Thin Man), the Continental Op (Red Harvest dan The Dain Curse) dan karakter strip komik Secret Agent X-9.
