Wikipedia talk:Wikidata

The article says "From a Wikipedia page, you can go to the link "Wikidata item", using "Tools" in the side panel" but my interface does not show the "Wikidata item" link. I am using an ipad in desktop mode, default skin. I worked around this problem by making the desired change on the Wikidata website but surely I am not the only person having this problem? In the last few days, the link has been moved to the "in other projects" section of the side panel — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:30, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Redir to Wikidata

Please see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Redirect#Interwiki redirect to Wikidata (not redir with Wikidata). Thanks! fgnievinski (talk) 15:59, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Updates needed

I tried following Wikipedia:Wikidata#New articles but it seems out of date. It's written for the Vector 2010 skin and "the old way of adding interlanguage links" might not be relevant anymore. The organization was also hard to follow. I tried to rewrite the instructions, could somebody more experienced check?

New articles

How do I create an Interwiki link from an English Wikipedia article to its foreign-language counterpart?

  • First, find the Wikidata page (item) for that topic.
    • Go to the foreign-language article. On the right side pane, look for a link to the Wikidata item for that topic.
    • If there is no Wikidata link, go to Item by title, fill in the language code (for example, "sw" for Swahili) and the name of the page on the corresponding language version of Wikipedia, then click on "Search".
  • Then, add an interlanguage link to the Wikidata item.
    • Scroll down the page to the box labeled Wikipedia. Click edit, fill in the bottom row with "en" and the name of the English Wikipedia article, and click publish.
  • If the Wikidata item does not exist, create it by clicking on "create the item", filling in the name of the English Wikipedia article and (preferably) a description of the item, then add the interlanguage links to the item, as described above (using the appropriate language code).
  • If you are planning to add interlanguage links often, you may want to switch on the gadget "slurpInterwiki", available in your Wikidata gadgets. Once the gadget is on, and you are on the item page, click on "Import interwiki" on the menu on the left.
