It says "Years are numbered according to the Western Dionysian era (also referred to as Common Era)." The page was inconsistent, and I fixed it. Dates should be secular unless there's a specific reason otherwise in context. Tanath (talk) 15:46, 2 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

You didn't read far enough. Just after the part of WP:ERA you quoted, it says:

"AD and BC are the traditional ways of referring to these eras. CE and BCE are common in some scholarly and religious writing. Either convention may be appropriate.

Do not change the established era style in an article unless there are reasons specific to its content. Seek consensus on the talk page before making the change. Open the discussion under a subhead that uses the word 'era'. Briefly state why the style is inappropriate for the article in question. Having a personal or categorical preference for one era style over the other is not justification for making a change."
