Urban Wave is an alternative rock band from Yuma, Arizona. The band was started by Felipe Ruiz and Zak Rodney in summer 2008. Of the four name changes, the band chose "Urban Wave". Their debut album, Anthems for Insubordinates, is set for a 2011 release
History
JetZak, Frequency / Re-Run (2008-2009)
According to the band's website, Felipe "Jet" Ruiz and Zak Rodney founded the band in the summer of 2008. The first song written was a comedic remix of "Mamma Mia", popular at the time. Later that month, they decided on the name JetZak, a prometeau of Jet and Zak, the founding members of the band. They dubbed their first album Frequency, and wrote 11 songs. Only two, "Re-Run" and "Only Time Will Tell", were kept when the album was scrapped. The rest were tossed into "The B-Side Pile", a collection of unused songs. They relaunched their website and redubbed their new debut "Re-Run", after the titular song. They took a break from writing in winter 2008 to persue school.
JetZak Music
The band founded their own independent (and temporary) label in August 2009. JetZak Music, named so for the original name of the band, was formed to distribute their records to the public without use of the YCUBM.
Urban Wave (2009-present)
The band reformed in July 2009 to discuss a new name and new songs. They decided on the tentative title of their new album, Urban Wave, and decided on concepts for 5 new songs. Their plans include to release an EP, First Impressions of Earth, before 2012 and release a 32 track demo-mix that is currently untitled. One proposed name for the demo is Obsessed With Fire, after one of the demos written ("Ashley Miller and My Obsession With Fire"). They will release their debut album, Surreality, consisting of 13 of the highest ranked songs from the demo, in 2012.
