The topic I chose was disability in children. Teaching a child with a disability, especially one with ADHD, can be hard. Children with ADHD do not realize what they are doing. They need to be talked to in a positive way. According to Joyce Divinyi, children should be asked, “What are you doing?” This should be said in a calm voice. I know with the children, that I have seen at my school, this helps them a lot when the teacher is using a calm, soothing voice. Having a child with ADHD sitting up in the front will help him or her focus on what the teacher is saying. This will make a lot of difference in a classroom. This will help the student focus as well as the rest of the class focus. Also, in the classroom, another teacher, who is known as the inclusion teacher, will come in to help with the child. The child will have been tested, so that the teacher will know what they are up against. The child will have an IEP (Individual Education Plan). This will let the teacher and parents know what goals are set for the child, so that they can see if the child can master them. A lot of documentation goes into this as well. This will help the students out in the long run by starting the process while they are in prek or kindergarten.
