Digital Voice Coders
Definition
Digital Voice Coders convert the human voice into a digital representation for transmission of the voice. There are two general types of Voice Coders in use: Waveforem Coders, and Parametric Coders.
The Waveform Coder generates a digital representation of the voice waveform. This digital signal is transmitted over the medium, and then is used to regenerate the person's voice at the distant end.
Parametric Coders analyze the person's voice and generate digital parameters defining it. These parameters are then sent through the medium. The Vocoder at the distant end "regenerates" the person's voice from these parameters.
