User:Renesis/WikiProject Messageboxes

This project is being developed with the goal of standardizing Wikipedia's growing number of message boxes used to convey meta information on articles, article sections, templates, images, user pages, and their various talk pages.

Goals

This list is preliminary, our goals are flexible! Feel free to add your ideas or change something as you see fit.

Goals will be divided into two parts, defining standards and implementing standards. The implementation of standards tasks will be aimed at both converting existing templates, and providing standardized templates for use in new message boxes.

Defining standards

  • Define and maintain a standardized list of icons
  • Define global styles, both Wiki syntax and CSS
  • Gather a list of the different types of message boxes (Article meta, article warning, article dispute, talk page, user page, archives, etc.)
  • Define colors and styles for each type

Implementation of standards

  • Create global templates for talk boxes
  • Create templates for each type
  • Put applicable CSS styles into Common.css and/or Monobook.css
  • Create icons as needed
  • Convert existing templates
  • Merge, rename, delete messagebox templates as possible
  • Create and maintain list of helper templates for reference
