Ray Sheerin, Judo/Jujitsu practitioner, Edinburgh, Scotland.
Born in London in July 1971, Ray Sheerin was introduced to the martial arts by his father, George,who is a former Karate International, in 1975 at the age of four. Beggining in Wado Ryu Karate under the tutelage of Meiji Suzuki, at the National College of Martial Arts, 80 Judd Street, London. The family returned home to Edinburgh in 1980, Ray continued to train in Wado Ryu directly under his father, at the age of 12 he began training in Judo at the Lasswade Judo Club. After two years he transfered over to Yoshin Judo club then at 18 again switched club to Edinburgh Bushido Judo Club under Andrew Malcolm, he continues to train there.
At the age of 16 Ray was introduced to Lee Phillips, a Jujitsuka with the wjjf. this introduction radicaly changed his perception of the Martial Arts and he has studied Jujitsu ever since, In 1995 he travelled south to Essex in order to compete regularly in sport Jujitsu, and began training with Brian Herbert of Jikishin Jujitsu, under Brians expert tutelage Ray won two British titles at middleweight and also the United Nations International Championships, also at middleweight.
Like his father before him Ray returned home to Edinburgh In 2000, and opened the first BJJA Jujitsu club in Scotland, distance forced him to resign from the BJJA in 2001 and his clubs joined Bushi-No-Te Martial arts under Mike Gilhooley, where it flourished, as well as Jujitsu and Judo he was introduced by Mike Gilhooley to Kyusho Jitsu, under several American Masters, he was also exposed to Small Circle Jujitsu (tm) under Leon Jay, as well as rekindleing his practice of Wado Ryu Karate, He continues to teach both Judo and Jujitsu at several clubs in Edinburgh, and also continues his practice of Karate.
