Project Prayer Flag formed shortly after the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States.Article It began as one of the first Home front, wartime volunteer groups that would eventfully form as a private, non-profit organization. Married veterans -Sean and Angelica Black of Orange County California, began the project from their living room floor by sending American Pocket Flags, printed thank you cards with scripture verses and Military related field gear to U.S. Special Operations Forces. The U.S. Special Operations teams were operating in Afghanistan and conducting operations against the Taliban and terrorist mastermind Osama Bin Laden. As American Troops served in the field, word grew among the U.S. Soldiers who were carrying "Patriot Packs", (the American pocket Flags , phone and scripture cards) while on patrol.

PPF Joins DOD and America supports you.By 2003 In order to meet the thousands of requests from U.S. Commanders and Soldiers, Project Prayer Flag began to conduct "Patriot Parties" with local communities and hundreds of United States volunteers.Article These large events were held in Community centers and churches through four U.S. State Chapters. The largest State Chapters were located in California headed by Sean Black and in Hawaii under Director Tina Mueller.Article Political, Faith Christian Examiner articleand Community leaders rallied their communities to assemble, pack and ship over 60,000 Patriot Packs in each event. To date Project Prayer Flag has given 850,000 U.S. Soldiers their own individual Patriot Flag Packs. By 2005, PPF had become one of the first founding members of the "America supports you" organization and worked in community partnership's and operations with the Department of Defense (DOD). They are listed as an Official DOD Military support organization.

PPF Expands.As PPF grew, additional programs were added to support the growing "global war on terror" (GWOT) efforts with the Bush Administration and to show support for Americas Military. As U.S. Military Base installation requests to support Military families flooded in, PPF operations expanded to include 'Operation Christmas care" (care box programs), "Operation Warrior Welcome" (baby showers for Military wives) , Glitz and Gowns (free prom dresses for Military wives) , Financial assistance, Military family day events, Funeral support and individual counseling services.

Corporate Support.Project Prayer Flag relied heavily on Individuals, grassroots operations and later funded operations with Corporate and Church contributions. The Faith based community reached out heavily through these operations and responded across the U.S. through the non denominational Calvary Chapel church network, various Catholic groups and assorted Jewish Communities. Some of the most widely known corporate supporters included, Hershey's chocolates, Louisville Slugger, Stussy clothing company, The Los Angeles Angels, Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies and In-n-Out hamburgers.Article

Hollywood.The first celebrities to support Project Prayer Flag Military support efforts began in 2005, with Actor Jon Vought giving thanks for Americas service members and their ongoing sacrifices for Americans. Throughout 2005 through 2012, various actor's including; Harrison Ford, Tom Selleck, Clint Eastwood, Chuck Norris, Jeremy Renner, Daniel Day Lewis and singers Reba McIntyre, Charlie Daniels, and Randy Travis supported the groups Military support efforts. In 2005, Aissa Wayne, The daughter of late Actor and American actor John Wayne,[Wayne] began to support the group. And by 2008, she joined as an Executive Advisor. By 2009, Actor and retired U.S.M.C. Captain Dale Dye,[[1]] joined as the groups Military Advisor.

Political leaders.As word began to grow about the Organization and their efforts through movie and media circles, Political leaders began to support the efforts and various operations of Project Prayer Flag. Project Prayer Flag gained the support of President George W. Bush, Former Polish President Lech Walesa, Australian Prime Minister John Howard, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and General David Petraeus. By 2008 as Presidential elections drew close, Presidential Candidate John McCain, Sarah Palin and many others supported Project Prayer Flag and had even received and carried the Patriot packs themselves.

Today. On September 11, 2012, Project Prayer Flag completed their final shipment of Patriot Packs and related Military Unit Support. It is estimated that through the course of the wartime Organization; Project Prayer Flag through its U.S. Community and Military support events, have encouraged and assisted 1.2. Million U.S. Service members and their families. The Organizations founders continue to serve today as Political, Military and Faith based advisors.
