SODHI BANS

Briefing the Ancestral History of Sodhi Bans . It is Great Pride to say that we Sodhi’s are Descendants of Raja Ram Chandra ji ,(Dashrat Putra Ram) Who had two Sons namely Lava & Kusha . It is said that Lava was the Raja of Labore and Kusha was the raja of Kasur . Described as the most beautiful cities of that time.

Lava descended by Kal Rai and Kusha was descended by Kal Ket . Both indulged in battle resulting to which Kal Rai fled and got settled in Sanef Desh where he married the daughter of the Raja of that area .

Kal Rai was further descended by Sodhi Rai and that is from where the Sodhi’s were so called & recognised .

Sodhi Rai was further descended by Jagat Rai , Mulk Rai , Sabir Rai , Mota Rai , Ananta Rai, Chitar bujh, Krishan Kumar , Hari Ram , Thakar Das Chowdhry Hari Das and Bhai Jetha who was further known as the fourth Guru sh. Guru Ram dass ji .

History follows as such that the Son of Kal ket , Went to Kanshi and then he obtained Gian of the Veda’s and therefore was known as Vedi Rai , later on known as Bedi Rai . Sodhi Rai who was an admirer of Religion, invited vedi rai to recite the vedas at his residence . Vedi Rai’s performance of the vedas was so powerful that when the Fourth Veda was recited , then Sodhi Rai gave his kingdom to Vedi Rai , and obtaining Aashirvad from Vedi Rai , moved to seek peace and Salvation .

Name of the All 4 Veda’s .

1. Rigveda

2. Yajurveda

3. Samaveda

4. Atharvaveda

On obtaining the Kingdom (Raj) from Sodhi Rai , Vedi Rai recited the following verse .

Which means that we Bedi’s are pleased on obtaining the Raj from Sodhi Rai . Since we were given this raj on reciting the fourth veda . there fore we will return it back to them as the fourth Gaddi . Sh. Guru Nanak Dev ji who was a descendent of Vedi Rai or Bedi Rai , was the first Sikh Guru Followed by Guru Angad Dev ji , Guru Amar Das ji and Finally the Fourth Guru Shri Guru Ram Das ji

So Guru Nanak Dev ji was a descendant of Kusha and Guru Ram Das ji was the descendant of Lava , Both Sons of Raja Ram Chandra ji .

Guru Ram Das ji had 3 Sons namely 1. Baba Prithvi chand ji , 2. Baba Mahadev ji , 3. Guru Arjan Dev ji

Guru Arjan Dev ji succeded the Gaddi of Guru Ram Das ji with vast following . He arranged the Guru Granth Sahib ji by putting Shabads of Guru Nanak Dev ji and adding the shabads of Bhagat kabir ji , Baba Farid ji and such religious Personalities and adding along with his own Shabads , putting all together.

It was then, that the great following of Sikhi from Kabul kandhar , Bannu , North east , West frontier , came to Amritsar for the Darshans of Sh. Guru Granth Sahib Ji which was recited to them by Guru Arjan Dev Ji . These followers demanded that the Guru Granth sahib may be explained in easy language because it was impossible for every individual to obtain copy of the sacred book . They required to know the meaning & teachings of Shri Guru Granth Sahib ji .

Baba Meharban ji son of Baba Prithvi Chand ji (eldest son of Guru Ram Das ji ) was the first scholar of Shri Guru Granth Sahib who had prepared in easy language , the meanings & teachings of the Gurbani entered in the Guru Granth Sahib , He was very much loved by his chacha ji Guru Arjan dev ji who used to call him “Lakhte jigar” Baba Meharban ji requested Guru Arjan Dev ji to permit him to explain the meanings & teachings of the Guru Granth Sahib ji before the Sikh followers . The job was done so well that Guru Arjan Dev ji was pleased with him and he wanted to reward Baba Meharban ji . In reward Guru Arjan dev ji announced that in future the Sikkhi Followers of Kabul kandhar , Bannu , North east west frontier etc, would accept Baba Meharban as their Guru . He also gave Baba Meharban the Pothi & Mala which originally belongs to First sikh Guru Sh. Guru Nanak dev ji and accordingly this Gaddi was known as the Gaddi of Sh. Pothi Mala sahib, which was blindly worshipped by the Sikh followers .

Baba Meharban ji along with his father Baba prithvi chand ji further moved to Mohamdipur and Got settled there ,

He was descended by Guru Har ji , Guru Har Gopal ji , Guru Gurditta mal , Guru Jeewal Mal , Guru Har Sahai , Guru Ajit Singh , Guru Hamir Singh , Guru Gulab Singh , Guru fateh Singh , Guru Bishan Singh , Guru Jaswant Singh Sodhi , Guru Atamjeet Singh , Guru Karan Sher Singh , Guru Rustam Sher Sodhi (Present Gaddi Nashin , Mukh Sevadar)

Guru Rustam Sher Sodhi is blessed with one son Baba Moksh sodhi

                 GURU ANSH

Baba Meharban ji had settled down in Mohamdipur where he was worshipped by the Sikh followers , through the blessings of Shri Guru Arjun dev ji the fifth sikh Guru .

In Muktsar , Dist. Faridkot the two races of Brars & Dogras were in conflict with each other due to vast landed property uncultivated in the area . The Mukhia (Sultan) of the Dogras called Guru JIwan Mal to come to this area and finish the conflict as it was evident that Guru jiwan mal was a descendant of Guru Ram Das ji , he was influential among both Dogras and Brars .

Guru Jiwan Mal succeded , and wishfully the two races requested him to to shift to this area premanently from Mohamdipur . They also offered to give him a large property and it was so done that from sunrise to sun set . Guru jiwan Mal was asked to Ride on Horse back and that area covered by him would became his ownership . In this way One lac acres were rounded up from sun rise to sunset . And that area was Known as Lakhi Jungle .

Here Guru Jiwan Mal with Help of Sikh followers constructed a huge Guru Dwara where the pothi Mala was placed for Darshans . Accordingly this Guru Dwara was named Guru Dwara Pothi Mala Sahib .

Later on the Name of this Lakhi Jungle was converted to GURU HAR SAHAI after the Name of HarSahai the son of Guru Jiwan Mal

It was quite later on where Guru jaswant singh took over the Gaddi at very young age of Nine years . His wife Mata Harbans kaur was the daughter of sir Baba Khem Singh Bedi , a direct descendent of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji .

He was so Perfect in religion that Sikh followers loved and worshipped him . In the early fifties a great number of followers migrated from Pakistan and kabul . Who settled down at Faridabad in Haryana . Guru Jaswant Singh Sodhi offered pray s for them and Guru Nanak Dev ji accepted and they are now blessed at the good position , and running high businesses . On every visakhi a Mela was organized at Faridabad displaying in the Darshans of Pothi & Mala in the Gurudwara Pothi Mala Sahib constructed there by Guru Jaswant Singh . The Sikh followers owers made a great contribution to make this Gurudwara at Faridabad .

But one unlucky Day of April 1970 while Guru jaswant Sodhi was returning from Faridabad to Guru Har Sahai during the railway journey the Pothi & Mala were both stolen. This was the great

drawback which resulted in the death of Guru Jaswant sodhi on 18th March 1971 . Left behind only padam sahib a valuable stone originally belongs to Guru Nanak dev ji and 1 manka which is from Guru Nanak dev ji Mala and originally belongs to it and that Manka is with Present Gaddi Nashin Guru Ansh Baba Rustam Sher Sodhi . When Sikh followers came Guru Har Sahai for the “Antim Ardass ”it was to surprlse of the entire spectators when the cremation the Dead Body of Guru Jaswant Singh lifted up its Right hand as to give Aashirvad and after two minutes the Hand went Back to into cremation flames .

Guru Jaswant Singh during the time of Britishers was a member of the legislative assembly and later on he was M.L.A during the 60’s . He is remembered and celebrated in Faridabad every year on 18th March by holding a Great Mela .

In the early fifty’s Guru Jaswant had given the Gaddi of Kabul to his relative Baba Gurdarshan singh sodhi , who heavenly abode in Faridabad on 10th july 1996 . According to the desire of Baba Gurdarshan Singh Sodhi , this Gaddi has been given to Guru Karan sher Sodhi (Grand son of Guru Jaswant Singh Sodhi) on 14th july 1996 As he was instructed by Guru Jaswant Singh that the Gaddi should be given to his descendent if any one is fit for it .
