Persian JAZZis a new step in Persian music. We try to find the Music-Physics based scales in Iranian music (considered “Dastgah” in Persian), and combine them with Jazz based chords and rhythms. It seems easy in the first look, but it’s so more difficult than composing or arranging a new song (in its origin style). The biggest problem is the “Quarter Tone” in the Persian music. We see that in some other Middle Eastern genres such as Indian, Arabian and Turkish music. Some musicians believe this ability of eastern music make it more beautiful and traditional. It’s true in some cases, but we can’t use all of them in combinational music. Many of cases sound false. We can find the cause of this problem in the fundamentals of Sound Physics. When we combine some tonal waves we should care that they have harmonic relationship. The result sound wave should be Periodic. This is the task of a master musician to arrange the notes carefully and sensitively. In Jazz we have multiple problems; we have the chords with more than three notes in each, so the situation of all polyphonic notes is important. For an accessible example, in “Shoor” scale with “E” as tonal, we could have “Emin7” chord. Now if we use “F Sori (a quarter-tone after F)” playing by an additional instrument over the chord, we hear a completely false sound! The Jazz based combinational music flow has been started since 20th initial. We just have had some activities in Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey and even some non-resulted ones in Iran. There could be two kinds of combination; you can use eastern instruments in world music or can apply special eastern scales and use the routine world instruments in selected genre. We chose the second way; it means we use Piano, Drums, Bass, Jazz Guitar… and we just utilize some Persian scales such as Shoshtari, Isfahan, Mahour, Shour, Segah… (With a little change and correction).
