Jacob Kimchy founded One Heart in memory of his father, Rami Kimchy, who was killed on May 7, 2002
in a terrorist attack in Rishon Letzion, Israel. Rami was waiting outside of the Sheffield Club at 11 pm that evening
in his taxi. When his customer did not arrive, he went in to see what was keeping him. At the same time,
a 20 year old terrorist entered the club, killing 15 people, including Rami, and injuring another 85. That night,
Jacob was having a late dinner when he received a call about the attack. He went directly to the scene to
assist the survivors, and saw his father's car outside of the club. After the attack, Jacob wanted to find a
way to help other victims of terror around the world, which lead to the founding of One Heart.
The psychological effects of a terrorist's action can often be experienced years after the incident, at which time help may no longer be available. Public recollection of the incident has faded and the victim maybe left with a crippling physical or emotional disability. Global assistance towards victims of terror has often been initially swift at the group level. However, sustained assistance for the individual is often minimal and fades with the world's collective memories of the event. It is recognition of these shortfalls, and in hopes of providing long-term assistance for those who are without the crucial assistance, that One Heart was established. One Heart helps victims of terror across the globe to overcome long lasting terror induced psychological and physical trauma. One Heart offers assistance for psychological needs of victims and family members and provides for plastic surgery and other longer term needs that are often not provided by insurance. We also create programs in which to bring together survivors of terrorism to help them form a community. We remain committed to each victim of a terror attack through our global network. One Heart also raises public consciousness of the often unmet needs of victims of terror.
