Michael was born to Norman and Bernice Koval in Washington, DC on July 16, 1963. Michael's father, Norman S. Koval, MD is a prominent Rheumatologist currently practicing medicine in Lewis, Deleware. Bernice Koval is a retied elementary school teacher from Montgomery Country Public Schools. Michael has a sister, Renee who is 5 years younger than he is. Currently Renee is married with two children, Merick and Dalton and resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After spending 3 years in Honolulu, Hawaii as a youth, Michael and his family moved back to the Washington metropolitan area where he attended Lakewood Elementary School for 3 years. Norman Koval, MD was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army stated at Tripler Medical Hospital, Hawaii and Water Reed Medical Hospital in Washington,DC before he retired and went into private practice. During his second year of Middle School at Robert Frost his parents moved to a new home just 6 miles away but it did change the school districts and Michael had to move to Cabin John Middle School. At Cabin John, Michael met his best friend David Stupar. David and Michael have been friends for years. David is married and lives in Rockville, Maryland. David is currently a special agent in the IG for the District of Columbia. Upon completion of Cabin John, Michael attended Winston Churchill High School. Michael attended the University Maryland at College Park for a BS in Finance and Johns Hopkins University for a MS in Information Technology. Koval has also attened Hardvard Business School Executive Education for advanced Technology Management.
