After nearly five years of editing that has resulted in over 61,000 edits, over 7,500 articles, over 200 templates, and at least 30 images, it is time to retire from Wikipedia. This decision was not made lightly in the fact I still like to edit. It was made not out of anger toward any policy of Wikipedia, any issue with another user, or toward Wikipedia itself, but mainly out of a change in priorities that meant Wikipedia was not important to me now as it was then. For those who are not aware, I am engaged to be married later this year. I am also involved in a job-related exam that will take place in October that I need to focus on so that is consuming more of my time.
When I first joined Wikipedia in May 2006, I did it out of something to do away from work. It in its own way, became writing therapy for me in the sense that I was able to write about what I liked, but did not know why. Wikipedia also allowed me to sort out parts of my life that I needed to deal with which I finally did last year. And it allowed me to pay tribute to where I grew up both in Tennessee and South Carolina which became DYKs last year, mainly David C. Chapman and South Carolina Highway 291.
There are a lot of users who I worked with over the last five years that I would like to thank for their assistance and comapny: Arsenikk, Darwinek, Dr. Blofeld, Orlady, Dravecky, Parutakupiu, Sue Anne, Bms4880, and Andrwsc among others. For those other users whose names I failed to mention, thank you.
