Marvin Chords outside BCR FM 104.1 studios

Thapelo Marvin Thandisizwe Sibiya, better known as Marvin Chords, is a South African radio presenter and Hip Hop/R&b music composer. Born March 18th 1991 in a township called KaNyamazane near Mpumalanga’s capital city, Mbombela.

After completing his high school studies in 2011, Marvin was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to attend college at Damelin Lowveld in 2012 to study sound engineering as a course for the duration of 12 months. Due to financial issues, Marvin couldn’t further his studies, but was able to obtain a level 4 FET certificate in Sound Technology.

Marvin decided at a very young age that music and radio were the career paths he wanted to take and in 2013 he did just that. He started composing beats for his friends and upcoming rappers around his neighborhood. His compositions skills evolved with time, now he has three radio singles under his name. He teamed up with Nicey Beatz and produced the R&B hit single “Pleasure” which was released in February 2017 under both their names for Valentine’s Day and the single has aired on various radio stations such as BCR FM 104.1, Ligwalagwala FM, Rise FM and Kasi FM. Marvin Chords also produced the Hip Hop/ Trap single “KindaKool” for rapper CNO which is also getting radio play on various stations. His latest offering is a single titled “Pimpin’ Like My President” also composed and authored by him.

Marvin Chords added radio presenting under his career belt when he was selected from hundreds of people who took part on the 2014 BCR FM 104.1 radio presenting auditions. He made his radio debut in April of 2014, co-hosting a Hip Hop radio show called Shut Up n’ Turn Up. Marvin Chords also hosted and produced shows like “The Midnight Remix”, a Hip Hop and R&b show which aired on Sundays from 02H00 to 05H00, “The Mid-day Buzz” which aires weekdays from 12H00 to 15H00 and is currently hosting the biggest Hip Hop and R&b radio show in Mpumalanga (The Definition with Marvin Chords) which airs Fridays and Saturdays at 22H00.

“The Definition with Marvin Chords” focuses on everything concerning the Hip Hop and R&b culture, allowing local aspiring Hip Hop and R&b acts to showcase their gifts, talents and skills by granting them interviews, freestyles, cyphers and play listing their music on a top 20 chart based on local underground or, as Marvin would say “underrated” artists. The show also grants mainstream acts the same opportunities by play listing their music and allowing them to promote their brands.

In August of 2016 Marvin was a part of history as he took part in the first major theatre play “The Rising Sun” in Mbombela Civic Centre, directed by iSibaya star Zakhele Mabasa. Marvin was selected by a panel of judges to be part of the play after he auditioned amongst thousands of participants. The play received positive reviews from “Mpumalanga News”, “Mpumalanga Commuter” and a nod from the mayor of the city of Mbombela himself, Mr. Sibusiso Mathonsi.

In December 2017, Marvin Chords received two award nominations at the 2017/2018 National Community Radio Week Awards. He was nominated “Best Personality of the Year” and his show “The Definition with Marvin Chords” was nominated on the “Best Music Show” category. In 2018 he was nominated again twice at the 2018/2019 National Community Radio Week Awards on the “Best Male Presenter” and “Best Personality of the Year” categories.
