The Beginning
“I was exposed to the variety of music from an early age, from Classical to Rock, Rap, Pop, Soul, R&B, Jazz and Blues”. Mark’s influences are limitless. “I just enjoy good music; variety is the spice of life” says Mark. "The hallmark of his musical foundation is attributed to quality song writing, production and musical story-telling".
Mark began his career in the industry as a dancer. He performed at various clubs and became a well-known b-boy/breaker and rapper. Mark honed his trademark skills through years of practice and continues to demonstrate he's more than just another fly by night. As a teenager, Mark and his associates created a Record Label. He was introduced as Sing A Song Records/Inventions first artist in 1989, when he was featured on Singer Songs Records/Inventions track debut single, "It's Too Late", which peaked at number 11 on UK's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.
Mark worked with several other labels on successful releases and attracted the attention of US Record labels. Collaborations and tours with US artists and labels followed. Later, Mark’s energy, enthusiasm, charisma and love of music propelled him into hosting radio shows playing Rap & R&B. This in turn led to Mark’s involvement with the promotion and remixing of a multitude of successful artists including Onyx, Cypress-Hill, Domino, Ice T, Eric Bennett, Joe, Brandy, The Sounds of Blackness and The Brat.
After several small label signings, Mark eventually signed with Sony's Columbia imprint. “Getting signed to Sony Columbia was a dream come true. It was sheer hard work and determination that helped me enjoy my first signing to a major record label and I learned so much. Though I was signed before Sony was a whole different beast! I wrote and produced/co produced all my own work which at the time for a new artist was a rarity. I met a lot of good people who helped me grow not only as an artist but as a writer, producer and musician as well”, says Mark.
Mark also worked along side BKO Productions bring Brandy, Joe, Brownstone and Eric Benét to the UK for the first time.
Mark also spent an extensive period in America getting involved in international licensing, production, and remixing. Mark was one of the first to acquire a UK license for the legendary 2Pac and Biggie classic ‘Running’. “I worked with a lot of young companies that were still growing but had good success-rates and high unit-sales. I got to know a lot of people and learned a hell of a lot not just tricks of the trade but about what makes the top people in the business so dam good" Mark quotes.
On his return to the UK, Mark developed several projects of which; two of the artist involved achieved MOBO Awards. Mark created Jump Street Entertainment and record label Jump Street Music Recordings to complete his vision of a cutting edge independent entertainments company.
Now Residing in Atlanta GA Mark is now ready for the next chapter.
