Mark Coyle (b.1965) is Editor, Continuous News, BBC Scotland. This page appears to be an autobiography.

The post was created as part of the restructuring of the News & Current Affairs department after the appointment of Atholl Duncan as Head of News & Current Affairs in November 2006.

Coyle is a member of the News Board, which leads the direction of the department. His team is responsible for the Scottish content of the BBC News website, Ceefax in Scotland, digital text on BBCi, bulletins on BBC Radio Scotland and a number of television news bulletins.

Before becoming Editor, Continuous News, Coyle was Editor, BBC Scotland News Interactive, concentrating mainly on the Scottish news website.

He moved to BBC Scotland in 1999 just before the first Scottish Parliament elections, after being asked to create a "Scotland" section of BBC News Online, where he had been an editor since before the site's launch in November 1997.

His career took him to BBC Radio Five Live in mid-1997 after spending four years at BBC Radio Cumbria in Carlisle. This was his second post in radio, having spent four years at Northsound Radio in his home city of Aberdeen, in north east Scotland.

Northsound was his first venture into radio from print. Prior to that, he was the Buchan reporter for the Evening Express newspaper, whose circulation area covers the north east and north of Scotland.

He began his working life as a journalist on the weekly Mearns Leader newspaper, based in Stonehaven where he attended Mackie Academy, the local secondary school about five miles from Newtonhill, the village he grew up in from 1973.

Before taking up this first job, he studied journalism at Napier College (now Napier University).
