Infante Enrique María Fernando Carlos Francisco Luis de Borbon y Borbon, 1st Duke of Seville was born on 17 April 1823 at the Alcázar, Seville. He was a grandson of Charles IV, King of Spain. He was killed in a duel with his cousin the Antoine, Duke of Montpensier, at Alarcón near Madrid on 12 March 1870.

Enrique was the third son of Infante Francisco de Paula of Spain, Duke of Cadiz, and of his wife, Princess Luisa Carlotta of Bourbon-Two Sicilies.

Enrique's paternal grandparents were Charles IV of Spain and Maria Luisa of Parma. His maternal grandparents were Francis I of the Two Sicilies and Maria Isabella of Spain. Maria Isabella was a daughter of Charles IV and Maria Luisa.

There is evidence that young Queen Isabella II of Spain would rather have married him rather than his elder brother, Francis, Duke of Cádiz.

On 6 May 1847 (1848?) in Rome, Infante Enrique, married unequally and without the permission of the Queen. His wife, Elena María de la Asunción de Castellvi y Shelly was born in Valencia on 16 October 1821 and died in Madrid on 29 December 1863. She was the daughter of Antonio de Castellvi y Fernández de Córdoba, 9th Count of Castellá and Margarita Shelly.

Consequent upon his marriage, he was deprived of his royal titles in 1848; he was restored to them ad personam six years later but they were taken away once again in 1867 because of his blatant involvement in politics and opposition to the government.

They had two sons:

• Francisco de Paula María de la Trinidad Enrique Gabriel Rafael Edmundo Buenaventura
• Alberto Enrique María Vicente Ferrer Francisco de Paula Antonio, 1st Duke of Santa Elena

He was created Duke of Seville and a Grandee of Spain by Royal Declaration on 18 April 1823.
