Angus Haldane is a British art historian, curator and Managing Director of Haldane Fine Art ^[1], a fine art dealership and consultancy in London. He is also an executive committee member of the Society of London Art Dealers SLAD^[2].

Angus was educated at King's College School, Wimbledon. He subsequently read Classics at University College, Oxford, where he specialised in ancient history, Greek and Latin literature and antique sculpture. After Oxford, Angus received an MA in Byzantine and Early Renaissance Art from the Courtauld Institute, studying under Professor Robin Cormack. After graduating, Haldane worked for many years as a senior specialist in paintings both at Christie's and Sotheby's, where he also acted as an auctioneer.

Haldane Fine Art was founded in 2007 and the company has a dual focus on Old Master Paintings on the one hand and, Impressionist, Modern and Contemporary art on the other.

Angus has appeared on the BBC, CNN, Russian and Abu Dhabi television and speaks French, Italian and Russian. He travels widely in order to source paintings, meet clients, and in his role as an academic. In May 2018, he was invited by the US arm of the National Trust (The Royal Oak Foundation), to deliver a series of lectures in the US on the subject of his book: Secrets, Spies, and Subterfuge: Civil War Portraits Revealed.

Angus Haldane is the son of the late Islamic art scholar, Dr Duncan Haldane and was brought up amongst the family portraits of his mother's family. Angus is married to Emily and lives in Marylebone.

As an art historian, Haldane has written and edited a number of articles and books on various subjects of art history, ranging from seventeenth-century British portrait to the art of the Soviet era.

• Portraits of the English Civil Wars is the first book in the Face of War series. The book explores the lives and iconography of some of the most remarkable historic figures involved in the English Civil Wars period. The next instalment in the series will look at the American Revolutionary War.

• The Face of Civil War: Robert Walker (1599 - 1658), His life and portraits: British Art Journal, Vol. 17, No. 2, 2016, p. 20-29. This was an academic article discussing the life and works of artist Robert Walker, portraitist of Oliver Cromwell and the parliamentarian supporters during the Commonwealth of England.
• A portrait of Drake? A belief in the possible: British Art Journal, Vol. 14, No. 3, 2013-2014, p. 42-44. This article discusses the research and identification of one of the earliest portraits of the great Elizabethan adventurer and explorer, Sir Francis Drake.

Haldane has curated and edited the exhibition catalogues of some important exhibitions of Russian art:

• Viktor Popkov (1932-1974): Genius of the Russian Soul was an exhibition at Somerset House that ran from May 22nd to July 18th 2014. The exhibition catalogue was published by Unicorn.
• The Legacy of WWII in Russian Art was an exhibition at Saatchi Gallery that took place from March 13th to April 6th 2015. The exhibition catalogue was also published by Unicorn.
• Art Russe Collection of 20th Century Russian and Soviet Art: War and Peace was an exhibition at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi that ran from October 6th to December 10th 2015. The exhibition had the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Social Development.
