Josh Post, an attorney with the California Department of Justice and Echo Park resident, is a progressive community organizer committed to economic improvement, the environment, and neighborhood renewal. Raised in rural Missouri, Josh has lived in Los Angeles more than a decade and has spent time living in Mexico as a law professor. Post began his career working in City Hall under Mayor James Hahn managing public relations for the nationally-renowned LA’s BEST After School Program, created in 1988 by Mayor Tom Bradley. In this capacity, Josh worked closely with L.A. City Council, LAUSD, and community groups to ensure safe after school programs for children in L.A.’s roughest neighborhoods. While working full-time in the Mayor’s Office, Josh pursued a law degree at L.A.’s historic Southwestern Law School. He excelled in the areas of urban planning and environmental law. Josh was also an effective student leader, serving as Associate Editor of the Law Review and President of the student chapter of the Association of Trial Attorneys. After earning his Juris Doctor degree, Josh served as a staff attorney for a federal judge in downtown L.A., working on human rights and government cases that generated national media attention. Josh also worked in the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office assisting in the prosecution of government corruption. More recently, Josh moved to Mexico as a visiting professor of law at the Universidad de Guanajuato, where he taught U.S. constitutional law and trial advocacy to Mexican law students. Living in Guanajuato for close to a year, Josh immersed himself in the Mexican culture, learned Spanish, and launched a mentoring program to teach local youth about the value of education and staying in school. Josh’s activism is not limited to only professional and academic settings. In 2002, Josh was elected to serve on one of Los Angeles’ first certified neighborhood councils in the Mid-City area, where he was praised for his innovative ways to address community issues. Josh is also a committee member and event volunteer for L.A.C.E.R. After School Program in Hollywood. He is a dedicated volunteer with Friends of Los Angeles River and is active with the Echo Park Improvement Association. Josh is also involved with the Los Angeles County Young Democrats, Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts in MacArthur Park, and Project Angel Food in Hollywood. Josh recently joined with Elysian Valley residents to advocate against air and sound pollution caused by the Metrolink yard next to the L.A. River. In his free time, Josh enjoys jogging around Silver Lake Reservoir and cycling through the city, especially along the Los Angeles River. As a fan of modern art, Josh enjoys the local art scene and paints as a hobby.
