Prof. James Newton Boss, Ph.D., Ing.Er., P.E. (UK), Knight (S.M.O.M.)


James Newton Boss, aka James Boss, (born 6 September, 1948, Singapore, married to Evon Tan) obtained his Ph.D. in Material Sciences (Washington University)., He is the Chairman, of Royal Bop Engineering Pte Ltd.; and Chairman of the Board of Boss, James, Newton & Associates; two consulting firms registered in Singapore. Both firms give expert opinion and advisory related to Materials, Science and Technology for Court arbitration.

Since 1992, he has been a qualified Professional Engineer, UK, an active Member, New York Academy of Science (1997); Fellow, European Ingenieurs des Ingenieurs Professionnel (1992); Fellow, Institute of Engineers, India (1992); and a qualified Member, The Federation of American Scientist (1998). For his contributions in the field of science and technology on composite materials, he was awarded the Honorary Professor of Albert Schweitzer International University, Geneva, Switzerland, 2000.

He was conferred the Knighthood of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta (S.M.O.M), Rome, 2007.

For his contributions to biomaterials research he was awarded the Gusi Peace Prize (2008), for Science, the Asian version of the Nobel Prize. Together with this award, he was bestowed with the “Key to the City of Manila” by the Mayor of Manila (Philippines, 2008).

He was an Active member of the Management Committee, (NUSS) in 2011 he was honoured the NUSS Outstanding Members Award National University of Singapore Society, in recognition for his signification and lasting contributions to NUSS, NUS and the wider community. He has been included in the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Edition of Who’s Who in the World by Marquis. USA.
