This is where you can wake me for! Day and night. Years ago, in 1980 I stumbled over a book called Touch for Health Manual [Toets voor Gezondheid]. What attracked me was the combination muscles and meridians. I already vagely knew about meridians. But not yet about muscles. I did not understand what it was about.

In 1989 I finalized my study for sportsmassage and knowing where the various muscles are placed in the body, this book triggered my interest again. Skimming trough it I still not understood a bit of its content and the issue at hand. I finally decided to enter the course Touch for Health 1.

The introduction into Muscle Monitoring. First I was asked to let my arms hang loose along side my body. Then I was asked to move my arms some 30 degrees to the front. My partner in testing was to touch my arms at my wrist and slowly push the arms towards its starting place next to the body. No hard pushing required.

Can you imagine what happend? My arms went back to its places. So what? The issue here is that using muscle testing/muscle monitoring there are three possibilities:

1. The limbs stay where they are.

2. The limbs go down, move without resistance back to their resting place.

3. The limbs "fight" to stay in their place.

In the "clear" situation a muscle monitor is to stay where it is. <PERIOD> Using a muscle spindle test one knows whether the muscle monitor goes for <1> or <3>. A moving muscle monitor as in <2> means in the area body/mind/spirit there is something that makes the central nervous system shut down. No circuit, no feedback, nothing to withhold the push.

Muscle monitoring is an art. Caught by the intreges of the muscle monitor I soon found myself wandering from workshop to workshop related to Kinesiology. It took me a long time to trust myself and that what I was experiencing. Finally I found myself convident enough to rely on the muscle monitor.

Now I propagate "trust what you are sensing while you muscle test/muscle monitor and go from there".

The path was steep, and it was the best thing that could happen to me. Now I can rely on this tool and concentrate on the problems at hand. "This is where you can wake me for! Day and night.".

The heart of Applied/Specialized Kinesiology. Muscle monitoring is the best biofeedback tool I know. It is best equiped to test the body/mind/spirit connection. Do you know of the principle of TOTE? We muscle test/ muscle monitor, make a correction (= operate) and we test for its impact and go on and on and on. Until body/mind/spirit says "STOP NOW".

TOTE = Test - Operate - Test - Exit

Touch for Health = A branch of Specialized Kinesiology that is designed as a First-Aid Kit. It is the laymen's version of Kinesiology. As I understood.

Biofeedback = a mechanism that is designed to measures bio [life] information. The dials in Muscle monitoring are "strong", "week", "blocked".

Applied Kinesiology = Does the name George Goodheart ring a bell?
