History has seen its share of no-win situations. They are common in everything from invasions, legal issues, and Wikipedia. These no-win situations may seem fair at first, but everyone forgets the larger picture: with so many people flocking into a site with a constantly changing set of policies and guidelines, how can one ensure a stable compromise? Such a lovely dream is impossible. Therefore, we must do the best we can to minimise the damage of these no-win situations, especially in one of the most dangerous areas: fiction. Writing about fiction correctly is one of the most difficult tasks on Wikipedia; however, one can feel better if one understands the difficulties and how to address them.

Difficulty in writing about fiction

Writing about fiction is difficult because it:

  • features constantly changing standards and opinions from a constantly changing group of editors,
  • suffers from the questionable philosophies of disconnected editors, and
  • requires extra time and effort to balance material and to locate hard-to-find sources.
