Calvary Church (各各他浸信會) of Taipei was born in the home of Sgt. Delbert Tissue of Tien-Mu in late 1958, and later met at the Lintou Baptist Camp before finally moving (next door) to the current church facilities in late 1959. In its early days, with the American Military presence in Taiwan, Calvary served as a main hub for armed service personnel and their families. Calvary has a long legacy with Southern Baptist Convention and a long-standing partnership with the local Taiwan Baptist Mission for over 50 years. In 2008 Calvary began making the transition into an independent Baptist church. Like other Baptist churches, their commitment continues to be a whole-hearted striving, not to be Baptist, but to be Biblical. Calvary has had a vital ministry in the international community of Taipei since 1961. It has remained a beacon for the gospel of Jesus in Taipei to both the international and local communities since it was founded. The ministry of God's Word has and will continue to be the focus of Calvary.

On August 29, 2010 the members of Calvary International Baptist Church adopted 3 newly revised church documents: 1) Statement of Faith (What we believe), 2) Members' Covenant (How we strive to live), & 3) Church Constitution (How we are governed). On February 27, 2011 Calvary International Baptist Church celebrated a new beginning by asking all current members to renew membership and inviting new members to join its membership through verbally affirming their Statement of Faith and Member's Covenant.

He grew up in the United States but have served the Lord in Asia since 1979. He came from Michigan, but spent five years living in Clearwater, Florida when he was young. David and his wife (Karen Freeman) have served as missionaries in Japan, Taiwan, and Nepal. They have four children. All four are married, and give David fifteen grandchildren. Eleven live in Taiwan. In 2008 David and his wife moved back to Taiwan and continued their ministry in Nepal while living in Taipei. In June 2013 Calvary extended a call to them to pastor the church.

He grew up in Taiwan and returned in 2003 with his wife, Rachel. He now has three boys, Micah, Caleb and Benjamin. He made a career move in March 2012, joining the pastoral staff at Calvary Church in Taipei. Before serving Calvary Church, he was an Investor Relations Manager at Yuanta Financial Holdings, Communications Specialist at ORTV, and Financial Analyst at ADAC Plastics.

The School of Grace at Calvary is Calvary Sunday morning Bible study time, held from 10:00-10:45 a.m. This is an sharing sphere to look at the Bible together in a setting that encourages interaction with each other, and to talk about how people can practically live out what they believe. There’s a class for everyone, regardless of age or where you are in life. We have classes for children of all ages (ages 2-12), a class for young people (ages 13-18), and adult classes.

Calvary offers two School of Grace classes for our children: the Sparrows (ages 3-5), and the Bluebirds (ages 6-12) every Sunday at 10:00-10:45 a.m. This September to the end of November both classes will be using age appropriate Bible-in-Life curriculum studying the topics of Our Heavenly Family, Our Human Family, and Our Spiritual Family. Alongside the curriculum, children will be challenged to memorize Bible verses, invite their friends to church, and will have the chance to earn "points" throughout the semester that they can exchange for fun prizes.

The Calvary youth class is made up of high school to college-age students interested in learning more about God and His Word. The class focuses on building relationships with each other, as singing songs together in English and Chinese, share weekly experiences, and study the Bible with an emphasis on how it applies to our lives. The youth class is held every Sunday at 10:00-10:45 a.m.

Adult School of Grace features a variety of classes throughout the year, taught by a number of gifted and biblically-grounded teachers. For some studies, all the adults are together in one class. Other times, we will have special men's and women's classes. All classes are centered around the truth of the Bible and held at 10:00-10:45 a.m. every Sunday. For Summer 2013, they have an all-men's class, studying "The Sovereignty of God" by looking at how God worked through the lives of men in the Bible. Their all-ladies class is studying topics from the book of James.
