Chun-Hung Cheng (Mr.) obtained his B.S.Sc. from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, his MSc in Computer Science, MBA, PhD from the University of Iowa. While he was a graduate student, he worked at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics as a programming analyst. He returned to Hong Kong and joined the Department of Systems Engineering & Engineering Management at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 1994.
Professor Cheng’s research interests lie in computer and information technology, and logistics and operations management. In particular, he makes use of computer and information technology in solving problems in logistics and operations management. His work appeared in internationally reputed journals, including the ACM Transactions on Information Systems, Annals of Operations Research, Computers & Operations Research, European Journal of Operational Research, Expert Systems, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, Information and Management, Journal of Information Technology, Journal of Operational Research Society, Journal of Supply Chain Management, Omega, Operations Research, etc.
Professor Cheng, together with Professor J.W. Boe (from the University of Iowa), developed a group technology layout design algorithm. This algorithm was implemented and used by a third party for a toys manufacturer in South Brazil. In addition, Professor Cheng provided consulting services to several Manufacturing and Services Companies in Hong Kong. The nature of these projects ranges from MRPII implementation to evaluation of micro-payment systems.
