The History of Homeownership in America

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are among the unalienable rights enshrined in America’s Declaration of Independence. Since its founding more than 200 years ago, people from all over the world have clamored to come to the United States. This is the land of opportunity – where the sons of shoemakers do not necessarily have to be shoemakers, and where the daughter of a shoemaker can grow up to be the CEO of Nike. People have risked their lives to come here in the name of religious and social freedoms, but perhaps America’s most alluring aspect has been the economic freedom and mobility of its people, which is best signified by the American Dream of home ownership.
