Template:Current iOS/data/doc

This template separates each of the values at {{Current iOS}}, such as major version number, minor version number, build, release date, release date with age, and references, making updating each version less tedious and allows for various different arrangements of the values. It is recommended to call the values in this template with {{Current iOS}}, as it is arranged in various standard forms.

Updating this template

Minor updates

When a new version of iOS is released, update each of the values for the updated version: the minor version number, build number (optional), both date values, and the reference. It is likely that {{Current iPadOS/data}} will need to be updated at the same time, as releases are usually synchronized. Most likely, {{Current iOS}} will not need to be updated manually.

References should be cited from first-party Apple websites (such as the update's security releases page, the update's Background Security Improvements page, the major update's release notes, or the update's Apple Developer release page).

Major updates

When a new major version of iPadOS is announced (most likely every June at WWDC), and if any models are stuck on the current release, create a new #switch tree here and at {{Current iOS}} for the current version, and apply that new parameter to all relevant articles before updating this template for the newer release. For example, in 2026, iPadOS 26 will be replaced by iPadOS 27, and a new tree may be needed for iPadOS 26 only if any models are dropped.
