Tanoli are not Pasthun and Hazarewal

Tanoli are Barlas from Timurid Linage refer in Inperial Gazette of India Page 228 154.198.83.251 (talk) 19:51, 13 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Inaccuracy and Incorrect about the Tribe.

First, Tarikh-e-Tanawaliyan by Syed Murad notes that the Tanolis had already established themselves in Hazara prior to the Yusufzai invasions, having taken control of certain areas from the Karlugh Turks and the Doma Hindus. There is no historical or genetic evidence linking the Tanolis to the Janjuas. In fact, recent haplogroup results indicate closer genetic affinities with populations from the Middle East and Baltistan.

Despite this, the author cites another source suggesting a Tanoli–Janjua connection, a claim which current evidence does not support. He further attributes a statement to Akbar regarding “Janjua Tanolis” ruling Darband, a claim that is historically inaccurate.

The author also asserts that the Tanolis do not use the suffix “Khel.” However, this is contradicted by the existence of prominent Tanoli clans such as Nawabkhel and Khankhel. Additionally, while it is noted that Tanawal was invaded by the Yusufzai during the Mughal era, the context is incomplete. At that time, the Mughals had installed the Karlugh Turks in positions of authority, and it was they who were primarily targeted by the invasions. Tanawal itself was never a part of Kashmir but rather functioned as a strategic route between Kashmir and other regions. 80.195.88.212 (talk) 22:41, 21 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

it is important to clarify that while Painda Khan lost portions of his territory, he was never subjugated by the Sikhs nor did the Tanolis ever fall under Sikh rule. Furthermore, the Tanolis did not rely on the Dogras or the British to restore their lands. During the Anglo-Sikh wars, the Tanolis regained their independence through direct conflict with the Sikhs and successfully recovered territories that had previously been lost.
It was in fact the British who approached the Tanolis seeking alliance, not the other way around. Their interest was largely due to the strength and reputation of the Tanoli forces. By the time of British arrival in the region, the Tanolis were already firmly established as rulers of their own domain. 80.195.88.212 (talk) 22:43, 21 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The Tanoli is a tribe of the Tanawal valley region in the Hazara. The Tanolis are Pashtun origin and descent from Ghilzai tribe of Bettani Confederation of Pashtuns and the Tanoli tribe are the descendants of Hazrat Yusuf (as). The Most members of the Tanoli tribe reside in District of Pakistan i.e Mansehra, Haripur, Abbottabad, Battagram and Kohistan districts. A branch of the Tanoli tribe also resides in Kashmir, mainly in Muzaffarabad and Srinagar. Tanolis also inhabit the cities of Quetta and Karachi. They dominate the Tanawal-Sherwan belt. They also living in Swabi , Mardan , Swat and Peshawar. In Afghanistan, the Tanoli primarily live in the eastern provinces of Paktia, Gardez, and Ghazni..The word Tanawal is derived from Dara Tanol Of Afghanistan. The Tanoli participated in the frontier wars with the British and in Charles Allen's analysis of those wars were described as "extremely hostile" and "brave and hardy and accounted for the best swordsmen in Hazara."

Name of Tanoli Tribe The Name of Tanoli tribe was derived from Darra e Tanal of Afghanistan from there Tanoli word comes and this tribe known as Tanoli. The Reference of the Book • Taarikh e Tanolian written by syed murad ali shah • Al Afghan Tanoli written by Haji Ghulam Nabi khan • Tanoli Taarikh e Aaina written by M.Ismail Khan kokalvi • Tarikh e Tanawal written by Fida Hussain Khan • Tarikh Tanol written by Farid khan • Marshals of Tanawal written by HabibuRehman khan • Mehfil e Tanolian written by Sardar khan Language of Tanoli Tribe In most of the Hazara region, the principal language of the Tanolis is Hindko. The Tanolis living in other areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and in Afghanistan speak Pashto, whereas many living in other parts of Pakistan have adopted Urdu and other languages. Origion The Tanolis originally lived in Dara Tanal, in the Ghazni region of Afghanistan. In the 10th century, the Tanolis joined the army of the Ghaznavid Emperor Sabuktigin and traveled with them to Hindustan. After the conquests, the Tanolis settled in Swat and Buner, formed their own state and appointed Anwar Khan Tanoli as their first head. But later they came into conflict with the other Afghan tribes who had newly migrated eastward into the region, most notably the Yusufzai. The Tanolis were defeated under their leader "Khan Ameer Khan Tanoli" at a battle in Topi. When the Tanolis were ousted, they migrated further eastwards and crossed the Indus River under the command of Mawlawi Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, and succeeded to defeat the Turks settled on the eastern bank of the Indus River, capturing the territory and named this area to their tribe i.e "Tanawal". Tanolis/TanoKhels and Ahmad Shah Abdali In 1752, the Tanolis allied with the Afghan Emperor Ahmad Shah Abdali and took part in military conquests, including the Battle of Panipat in 1761, under their chief Zabardast Khan Tanoli who was given the title of "Suba Khan” by Ahmad Shah Baba for his bravery. In the 18th and early 19th century, two of the main Tanoli clans, the Hindwal Khel and the Pallal Khel, fell into a feud and had a bitter struggle between them. The Hindwal khel clan gradually began to gain ascendancy, and Painda Khan of the Hindwal khel clan successfully united all Tanolis into one entity, which eventually became the princely states of Amb and Phulra. The Amb State lasted until 1969, with its primary capital at Darband, and summer capital at Shergarh. The construction of the Tarbela Dam reservoir in the early 1970s submerged Darband, a capital of the former state of Amb, underwater. The ancestry of these two nations is different. Many Abbasi brothers claim that the Tanoli people belong to the Abbasi family. In the genealogy of the Abbasi people, they have written a name "Tanoli Khan" and they claim that the Tanoli area and the people living outside the area Tanoli is the offspring of this "Tanoli Khan" which is completely wrong. All the historical books written on our nation, which have been compiled by people belonging to the Tanoli people themselves, have been denied by all the authors of this claim of the Abbasi brothers. The name "Tanoli Khan" is not mentioned anywhere in the genealogy of the Tanoli nation. In the same way, the names of many great men in our nation have passed away like Mughal Khan, Baloch Khan and Turk Khan. its not possible . And those few Tanoli brothers who are very few in number and are calling themselves Abbasi while being Tanoli due to their lack of knowledge, please do it and write Abbasi by erasing your nation "Tanoli" in the treasury. Because Tanoli Alhamdulillah are ethnic people and this act is not of ethnic people who change their caste. Alhamdulillah Tanoli Afghans are a Pakhtun tribe and descendants of Hazrat Yusuf (as). At the same time, it is a bitter truth for those who are not Tanoli people but have become Tanoli only because they live in Tanol area. Not everyone living in the Tanol area is Tanoli. Tanoli is a tribe and a family is a blood and a race. Apart from the Tanoli tribe, other tribes are also settled, including Sulaimani, Dalzak, Travara, Sohlan, Shadwal, Maliar, Ghakhar, Kharal, Jarl, Abbasi and Qasbdar tribes. These tribes are not Tanoli. "according to mehkma maal record these tribes are not tanoli".

The people of Shadwal belong to the Awans. They are not Tanoli The Tanoli people make up 85% of the population in Tanol, but the other tribes that make up 15% of Tanoli include one Shadwal (Awan). Settled in different villages of Tanol area, this nation is quite old. Which is a branch of the tribe of Awan. 1872 Records of Lower Tanol, Abbottabad District and Haripur District show that when the Tanoli tribe acquired the present area by force from the Tanol Turks, the Shadwal Awan were still present in the area. But there was no battle of Tanoli with Shadwal. That is to say, the already settled Shidwals did not support the Turks against the Tanoli tribe, nor did they support the Tanoli against the Turks. As soon as the Tanoli people occupied this whole area, they pushed the Turks to rehabilitate the polytheistic areas of Tanoli. There was a population of Shadwal (Awan) so they were not move from thier villages Because in the old days most of the people of this tribe were associated with the profession of Imam of the mosque.Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).
