inaccurate and misleading
This is a ambiguous and confusing article, because its proporting to be about Williams's concept, but it is actually about other writers interpretation of his concept
Its important that the article objectively explains Williams's concept and uses his quotes, correctly attributed to his texts. At the moment none of Williams's texts are attributed in the article. Surely the most reliable references are the books Williams himself wrote ?
I am happy at some stage to write the article, but I would need to remove most of the current article to do so. Structure of Feeling first appears in Williams book with Michael Orrom 'Preface to film' (1954). It then appears in various defenitions in many of his subsequent books. It changes sense in his later works and is superseded by a Gramscian version of Hegemony (in 77's Marxism and Literature)
I think its interesting and relevant to include other scholars interpretation and use of the concept, as well as criticisms of it, but these must come after William's own definitions, and they must be contextualised as other scholars interpretation and uses, and not inferred to as Williams's concepts (as is currently the case)
it is best to use literary examples that Williams himself used to explain his theory Izzizm (talk) 21:36, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
